August is a month of
transition. It's that wonderful carefree time between summer and fall. The
roadside stands are full of fresh fruits and vegetables, the gardens are
full of monarch butterflies and the quilt shop is brimming with new fall and
holiday fabric collections. Quilt Harvest Retreat 2005 will be here before
we know it and the staff is super busy getting the shop set up with new
fabric displays, hanging samples and making the store look terrific. This
is our 12th annual retreat and it is held in Hutchinson, MN at
the Victorian Inn. It's a wonderful time where old friends meet, new
friends are made and the art of quilting is truly alive and exciting.
Twelve classes are offered along with a trunk show and tour of Lynette
Jensen's home and gardens. Classes are filling, but we have a few openings.

Last month, we told you
about the new
Autumn Fare collection. It's selling so fast,
it's hard to keep the
signature print in stock. The early
release pattern,
Queen in a Day, is one of our retreat classes
and is more like Queen in a Half day! A super fast quilt for any level of
ability. The
Autumn Fare book
has arrived and, like the rest of Lynette's books, it's great. A quilt that is even faster than Queen in a
Day is the
Cinnamon Spice reversible comforter.
Another one
of my favorites in the book is the
American Spirit quilt.
Once you start working with this collection, I know you will find many other
uses for the folk art images that are in the signature print.
Hometown Christmas Club is
coming to an end and we are introducing the new
Main Street USA club.
This Block of the Month program is a throw size or wall quilt that shows the
charm of
rural America. Each month, you will automatically receive the
fabric for a block or border and the pattern. The design is by the
Main Street Cotton Shop
and we will be using Thimbleberries fabrics throughout the program.
The club will finish in July 2006 with the final border and binding.

Some of our new winter
flannels have arrived in soft pastels and brights that are great in baby
quilts. We have a new kit available called
Back from the Stash
that's used in the newest snowman flannel, it's irresistible. The book that
the pattern is in is called
Spring Cleaning, but we like to think of it as Getting Ready
for Winter. The quilt and pillowcase are both perfect for a
beginner's
quilt. Maybe now is the time to teach your son or daughter, grandson
or granddaughter how to quilt. If you know about a new baby that will
be arriving soon, nothing beats a flannel baby quilt.
Birthday Blast August will really get you started with fall decorating. Harvest Time is a classic wall quilt that you will use for many years. We have just added a new
collection of
hand dyed wools to our website. The price is

Our newest addition to our Flash Card quilt kits is the Easy Pinwheel quilt. The Four Patch Baby quilt and the Baby Patchwork quilt have been featured in previous months. Try using the snuggles fabric or our new baby wale corduroy for backing. They're so soft, add a great texture and are 60" wide.
As we wrap up summer, we have a couple of fun events planned for you to come and enjoy. The Quilters Poker Run will be held August 11, 12 and 13.
