Now that August is here, it's time to
make the most of what is left of summer. This summer has been perfect for
outdoor living. Knowing what is ahead for us in Minnesota, we really try to
enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. The hot summer sun and fresh warm
breezes lend so nicely to backyard picnics and patio parties. When I started
pulling out quilts to put on the tables for a get-together, it was like a trip
back in time. My favorite quilts are the ones that belonged to my husband's
grandmother. The colors and patterns, Devils Track and Grandmothers Fan are
both quilts that I truly treasure. I try to imagine what life was like as women
gathered together in the 20's and 30's to share their daily joys and struggles
and make what are now family heirlooms. Do you ever wonder if the quilts we're
making today will be valued as much? With all the fabulous fabric collections
that are available today, someone is going to have a great time going through my stash. It's just too hard to resist all the beautiful prints and plaids.
