The Main Street Cotton Shop News - December 2004

The Holidays, one of the most wonderful times of the year.  A time for decorating, celebrating, giving and receiving, a time for sharing with family and friends.  On November 10th, our family grew with the birth of our first grandchild, Emma Elizabeth.  Born to our daughter, Tracy, and husband Bryan.  Last month, I wasn’t sure what color quilt I would be making.  Needless to say, the Pink Pinwheel quilt is finished and delivered.  “Mixing the old with the new” and “simple touches” all take on a different meaning this Christmas.  For Emma’s first quilt (the one with Grandpa and Grandma), I used the Fat Quarter Pinwheels Quilt from the Holiday Quilts book.  Using soft pastels and backed with Soft Textures Snuggles, I got a lot of “Grandma time” holding baby Emma during the Thanksgiving holiday.  It’s so much fun being a Grandma and of course she is just beautiful.

Paint Box Express, the newest Thimbleberries book, has been a hot seller.  If you are looking for a kit to give for Christmas, the Allover Patchwork is a great bed quilt from this book.  A fun variety of prints and colors let you use this quilt in any room in the house.  For a fast wall hanging or table topper, the Log Cabin Star has really been a hit and for setting a great looking table you can’t beat the Checkerboard Stars table runner.  All kits use the Thimbleberries Paint Box fabric collection.  Don’t forget to order extra fabric for backing your projects.  If you aren’t sure how much you need, make a note at the bottom of your order and we will add it to the order.
There is still time to do a few small projects for Christmas.  Star Parade is the new Penny Woolie and our own Candle Glow wall hanging will light up the wall for the holidays.  We have had a number of requests for nativity patterns and kits.  The stained glass Manger Scene, Shepherds and Wise Men can be used individually or together.  The Poinsettia is a beautiful stained glass wall quilt that can be used for many years to come.  One of our new wool patterns since quilt market is the Seasons of Change, a fast wool project for giving. The six kits can be purchased individually.  With the holidays come sparkling evenings and cozy mornings.  Snuggle up with a great flannel quilt like the Up North from Cider Hill flannels book and fabrics.

Our 14th annual Christmas by Candlelight was held in November and I wanted to make sure I shared a few pictures with you.  Each year, that night seems to have a magical touch that is hard to explain.  People stop and visit and take time to enjoy one another’s company as they sip hot apple cider, sing along with the carolers and start their Christmas shopping.  Bob and Barney were the new team of horses this year and they loved it as much as I did.  It’s such a wonderful way to start the holidays and for many families it has become a tradition.  The years seem to go by so quickly, but with each passing year, I get excited for the year ahead.  With our new granddaughter Emma here, we are truly blessed along with our children, their spouses, our families and friends as they brighten our holiday season.

I want to take this time to thank each and every one of you for being such loyal and faithful customers.  I hope the Main Street Cotton Shop can help to brighten your holiday home and continue to serve you in 2005.  Have a wonderful Holiday season!
