The Main Street Cotton Shop News - February, 2006

As the chill of winter surrounds us, we look for a way to love winter.  If you're an outdoor enthusiast, we find many ways to enjoy it in Minnesota - snowshoeing, ice skating, winter hikes and picnics and dog sledding to name a few.  If outdoors isn't your game, regardless of where you live, then the Main Street Cotton Shop offers hundreds of ways to enjoy winter.  Making quilts, collecting fabrics and reading quilt books will help you get through the winter months.  Between the two shops, mail order catalog and our web site, we have lots of ideas for you.

February is a natural for giving a gift to someone you love.  With every order placed in February, we will send you this wonderful Made with Love pillow pattern FREE.  If you love our sample and want to make one just like it or give a kit, you can order it today at this special Valentine price of $15.95 (includes pillow back), regularly $22.95.  The kits consists of red printed velvet and tone on tone white cotton print fabric for the top and back.  A couple of other Valentine specials are the Warm Heart Kit, regularly $108.95 on sale for only $74.95, a snuggly flannel throw to warm up with. The other great special is My Sisters Garden table runner.  The pattern is in the Mostly Table Runners Two book and is fast, fun and easy.  The kit is regularly $31.95 and on sale this month for only $23.95.  Don't forget to order the book, on sale for only $19.95, regularly $27.00 (pattern is not included in the kit).  Wrap up your gift with a favorite red fabric, add a chocolate heart and watch the smile come across the face as you give a gift of love.

Although winter is still here, Thimbleberries new book, Fancy Free, brightens our day with a touch of Spring.  Fancy Free fabrics are so beautiful and now we have this great book to use the fabrics.  I especially like the cover quilt, Ruffled Floral Comforter.  The narrow ruffle edge gives it a unique look.  Layer quilts at the foot of the bed, add the Pillow Poppin' Flowers sham and step back to see the statement your room will make.  If time is of the essence, we have the clear deal for you.  The Queen Size Comforter is quick - quick - quick. The pre-printed 113" wide fabric from the Fancy Free collection is available in two colors.  The gold and the blue are equally as pretty.  Use this quilt motif to complete a bedroom ensemble in a day.

The You're Invited Club sign ups have been coming in fast, but there is still time to take your name.  What a fun way to not only get a project delivered to your home each month, but to keep up on the latest in fabrics, books and patterns.  Each month starting in March, you'll receive a project from the book and updates on what's new.  The projects this year will be sent in a timely fashion, so you have time to complete them for the appropriate holiday.  Call today to join.  If clubs aren't your thing, check out the kits on-line.  A good way to get started is the Prairie Point Runner or Ring Around the Rosy. Not only does the book offer great quilt projects, the recipes and decorating ideas will complete all your party plans.  You're Invited book is a "must have" in your quilt collection.

Wool kits are just a natural this time of the year.  They're fun to work with, easy to take along anywhere and small enough to finish quickly.  We took the Flower Basket kit and turned it into this great looking pillow - a decorative accent for the living room or the bedroom.  If you haven't worked with wool, start today. The hand-dyed wool colors are just awesome.

Thimbleberries Club 2006 has begun and what a great start.  The Vintage Stitches fabric appeals to every age.  There's still time to join our club, call for information.  As another suggestion for using the Vintage Stitches panels, we embroidered the blocks with several colors of perle cotton and framed them.

Jean Ogle, my 93-year-young employee (she has worked for me for 24 years) does all our hand work - what an incredible job!  These framed stitcheries will be lasting treasures for me.  How about doing these for your family or a special friend - gifts you can start today.  For those that don't  enjoy stitching, try using crayons to fill in the images.  In my Thimbleberries Club meeting last month, everyone colored in their block for a fast-finished project.

Another quick gift idea is one Lynette shared with me last week.  She took the Circle of Love stencil, used our Miracle Chalk Pouncer and transferred the design to the wrong side of one of her Thimbleberries fabrics.  She then embroidered the design and framed it.  Just another great way to use your notions again and a quick piece of artwork.
