The Main Street Cotton Shop News - July, 2005

Summertime - a time for playing, relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.  This is the time of year for a "project on the go".  Like everybody, the staff at the Main Street Cotton Shop is busy and on the run.  Whether it's to ball games, family reunions, the cabin or vacation, it's always go, go, go.  As quilters and crafters, we can't seem to just sit still and do nothing.  To keep idle hands busy, we came up with a list of "projects on the go".  Cherries, Star Parade, Thank Your Lucky Stars from the Calendar Table Topper book and Grandma's Garden are a few of the great looking wool projects that don't need a sewing machine.  Packed up small, they can be worked on anywhere, anytime - even at the 4th of July picnic.

Today we are having a "heat storm" - a fast moving front with high humidity and high temperatures.  As luck would have it, we received a great new pattern, Queen in a Day.  This will be the perfect quilt to make when it's too hot to be in the garden or out walking.  The fabric collection Autumn Fare, is Lynette's newest line to just hit the shops.  This fabulous line has a definite folk art look to the signature print.  Another pattern designed to go with Autumn Fare is the Fall Folk Art.  Both patterns use the line in what I think is one of the best ever.  The designer signature print has multiple uses and next month we will introduce the Autumn Fare book for more patterns and ideas.

Last month, the Country House flannel fabrics were featured with the beautiful floral as the focal fabric.  The Country House book is now available with a great collection of quilts designed for faster and larger piecing in mind.  The Easy Block Quilt is a fun quilt to get started with.  We also used the Beginners Luck book to do the Little Boy Blue quilt using Country House flannels.  If you're looking for a fast pieced quilt, this is the one.

Last month, we had the 27th annual Minnesota quilt show and conference in Duluth.  It's one of the best shows in the country with approximately 15,000 people attending.  This year, Lynette Jensen was selected as the Minnesota Quilter of the Year.  I feel so fortunate to know Lynette and see what an impact she has made to the quilt industry.  Her contribution to the art of quilting through pattern design, fabric and enthusiasm have made my job and your love of quilting a wonderful part of our lives.  As a friend and a shop owner, I want to thank Lynette and congratulate her on her outstanding achievement.  Quilting would not be what it is today without the hard work and foresight that Lynette has - way to go!

Birthday Blast July is a proven winner.  Picnic Potluck from the Daisy Days book is our July featured quilt.  The Birthday Blast quilt includes the fabric for the top, binding, backing and the Daisy Days book.  All this for only $74.95, regularly priced at $124.95.  That's a $50.00 savings! The fabrics featured in this month's quilt kit are from the Cottagewood and Picnic collections.

July 7 - 16 is the 7th annual Quilt Shops on the Prairie Shop Hop at the Redwood Falls location.  There are eight  shops included in the hop, each with a distinctly different niche.  If it will work into your schedule, join us for our summer Shop Hop.  While you are at it, mark your calendar for August 11 - 13 to come to our Hutchinson shop for a Poker Run.  Main Street Cotton Shop in Hutchinson and four other shops have organized  three days of games, gifts and prizes.  You never know what kind of luck you'll have shopping those three days.

Quilt Harvest Retreat 2005 is now open for registration.  This is our 12th year and it's looking like the best ever.  Twelve classes, trunk show with guest lecturer Lynette Jensen and a home tour of Lynette's home and gardens packed into three days.  You can download the brochure from our Home Page.  Don't wait to sign up, classes are filling fast.
