The Main Street Cotton Shop News - June 2004

The spring rains have brought life to the countryside and backyards.  Wonderful shades of green and yellow are emerging from the parks and woods as the wild phlox, jack in the pulpit and wild daisies are blooming.  The smell of the air after an early summer rain and fresh mowed grass always brings back fond childhood memories that feel good and don’t fade with time. This is a great time to do a little redecorating in your home to feel good as well.  Start your summer decorating with a new tablecloth for the dining room or for summer outdoor living.  The new Thimbleberries Classic Country Expanded edition has some great decorating ideas and quilt designs.  The expanded edition is a revised edition from other popular Thimbleberries books including Classic Country Christmas. Christmas Cottage, Cottage Comfort and Autumn Accents.  One of our favorites from the expanded edition for summer celebrations is the Parade Day Picnic runner.  Just in time for Flag Day, Father’s day gatherings and the 4th of July.  Another favorite using the Thimbleberries Holiday Collection book is the Summer Holiday Stars Tablecloth.  This is an Americana looking quilt that is our featured quilt this month. Regularly $89.95 during the month of June only $69.95. The Holiday Collections book, a $20 value, is included in this special offer.
Many new items have arrived in the shop this past month.  The newest addition to our Mostly Easy line of books is the Mostly Kids.  Whether you do these quilts in pastel or bright they are fun, and easy to sew.  For a quick baby or young child’s quilt try the Wild Rails quilt  or the Four Square quilt .  Both of these quilts are in the book along with a number of other good looking children’s quilts. To add to your Americana theme the Gilly’s Stars and Stripes runner from the Mostly Table Runners book is an evening project. Use your Americana projects for all your summer celebrations.

The new Thimbleberries patterns have arrived that coordinate with the Holiday Homecoming collection of fabric.  The Queen of Hearts runner is the store favorite.  Not only is it easy but it uses the red and cream holly toile print that is outstanding.  Pillow Partners is a great collection of pillows that stack for a nice display on the bed and the Village Patchwork wall hanging looks good in any house. By the middle of June, we expect the new Holiday Homecoming book. Keep checking for its arrival.  The new Thimbleberries Hometown Christmas volumes have arrived.  The volumes are available for sale under Books.  We are so excited about this program. Check out under Clubs for information on how to join our Main Street Cotton Shop Hometown Christmas Club

Don’t forget to pull out your Pint Size Traditions book to add a small quilt to your summer decorating.  Glory Be and Sunflower Glory seem to be big hits this time of year.

Wool penny rugs are bigger than ever and we have two new ones that everybody loves.  The Colonial Pineapple and Sunflowers and Thistles look great on a table or hung on the wall.  Mount the wool project on mat board and frame it for a beautiful and meaningful wedding gift.  The Charming Wool collection of fabric has such a range of color we can kit these to fit your color scheme, just give us a call or email.

On Mother’s Day last month two of our children and their spouses did the Susan Komen Race for the Cure with David and me.  What an inspiring and emotional race that raised $2.3 million and had over 47,000 participants.  It was so touching to be part of such a worthwhile event.  At one time during the race a young mom carrying a 2 week old baby was on one side of me racing in memory of her mother and on the other side was a 74 year old breast cancer survivor.  Take time this summer to participate in a worthwhile cause.  There are so many organizations all over the world that helps raise money for research, those in need and to eliminate deadly diseases.  If we all do a little bit I know we will share in making this a better world.
Well, now that the rain has stopped it’s time to pull the weeds, add my annuals to the flowerbeds and get my Picnic Parade runner done.  Enjoy these summer days and keep quilting.
