The Main Street Cotton
Shop News - November 2004
As the final leaves of
autumn fall to the ground, I am savoring the little bit of warmth that the
sun is giving off. Fall is by far my most favorite season and also the
shortest season. With autumn coming to an end, I look forward to
Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays. This is a perfect time to gather
with family and friends. November is a wonderful time to gather some of
your favorite fall quilts and reflect the beauty of the rich colors that we
use in them. Pull out table runners, throws and quilts that you have made
in the past. Fold them, stack them and fan them in a basket or two, add a
few leaves from the back yard, tuck in a couple of small pumpkins and you
have a great looking centerpiece for the table. Add a few new pillows to
the couch and you’ve created a nice seasonal change with little effort. |

There’s always something
new and changing at the Main Street Cotton Shop. The newest book,
Paint Box
Quilt Express by Thimbleberries features quilts and throws using
the new
Paint Box 2005
fabric collection.
Another new book in the shop is the
Mostly Cozy book. This is
a fun book that uses a variety of textures in the quilts. Chenille,
corduroy and velvet are just a few that give these easy quilts an
interesting look.

shop hoppers were great. We had a really fun three days as
shoppers from all over the country and Iceland visited and shopped our
store. For the Top Shop tour, we designed a wall quilt that reflected our
shop during the holidays.
Candle Glow is that perfect size to
warm the holidays and to fill a small space in your home. |
Our
original design from the Sampler magazine,
Christmas by Candlelight is
still
available and the two quilts look great together. Another top seller
during the tour was
Christmas Woolens. A small mitten kit for
only $13.95 that can also be used as a gift. These cute little mittens are
wonderful ornaments, teacher or grandparent gifts and also add a special
touch tied to a Christmas package. This past weekend I tried to finish a couple of Christmas gifts for friends. One of my favorite gifts that I can’t wait to give is the Christmas Patches tablecloth. The pattern is in the Holiday Collection book, which is full of ideas. The great thing with this quilt is the variety of fabrics you can use. This fall, I did one in rich harvest colors and for Christmas I stayed with reds, greens, chestnut and black. No matter what size your table is, you can easily adjust it to fit. |
If you’re looking for a
quick handwork project, check out our new small wool projects.
Candles and Holly,
Cardinal,
Maggie’s Mini
Mittens and
Christmas Lights are all new to the shop
and made with wool. All of these kits are great for making and better yet
for giving. The nice thing about the small wool kits is that you can take
them with you, no sewing machine needed. I have one of each ready to take
along in my purse. In the next two weeks, we are expecting our first
grandchild and I cannot wait. As soon as the phone rings, I’m packing my
kits and off I go. By the next newsletter, I can fill you in on if I’m
going to be making pink quilts or blue quilts. |
