The Main Street Cotton Shop News - September 2004

It has been an unusually cool summer this year and, as a result, fall is coming a little earlier.  That’s a good thing when you’re a quilter.  Nothing puts you in the mood for quilting better than cool evenings and crisp days.  A few of our maple trees and oak trees are beginning to change and the sumacs have turned a glorious red “up north”.  Thimbleberries  has definitely captured the autumn shades in the Cranberry Harvest collection of fabrics.   Rich browns and chestnuts, muted greens and baked pumpkin, topped off with a beautiful mum print are all in Lynette’s fall color palette.  The new Cranberry Harvest Quilt book is now available and full of “must do” quilts, runners and wall hangings.  One of my favorites is the Harvest Star Quilt.  A nice size wall quilt, throw or even perfect on the dining room table.  Harvest Star is our featured quilt of the month.  Regularly $109.95, during  the month of September only $84.95.  Log cabin quilts are such classic quilts and a design that has been, and will be, for years to come. The Shades Apart  quilt in the Cranberry Harvest book is the traditional courthouse steps pattern and is one of our staff's favorites in the book.

If you want a fast, fun and easy tablecloth for the fall, check out our Postcards from the Past using the Treats no Tricks fabric.  The pattern is available only in the Christmas Greetings book and is one you can do with any signature print fabric.  Our Postcards from the Past tablecloth kit is a super buy at $39.95, which includes the Christmas Greetings book (a $20 value) FREE during the month of September.

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about dressing the house for the holidays.  Make a Postcards from the Past holiday quilt using the Holiday Homecoming fabrics.  The Holiday Quilts book is another book that is full of great designs for gift giving.  Quilters love kits and what a wonderful gift to give.  Start shopping now and add the Holiday Pinwheel kit for that special friend.  Don’t forget about the Holiday Homecoming flannels.  The tree scene makes a perfect backing for any quilt.  The Hometown Christmas line of fabrics has many great small prints that can be used in Holiday quilts or projects that need great colors in a smaller scale.  There’s still time to join our Hometown Christmas club.  Each Hometown Christmas Volume has decorating ideas, recipes and small projects in addition to the main quilt.  Volume II has a darling mini Hometown Tree Skirt that is perfect for your feather tree or can be used as a small table topper.
In a couple of weeks, we are holding our 11th annual Quilt Harvest retreat in Hutchinson.  Three packed days of classes, trunk show, home tour, and memories party.  Many of you are coming from a distance for the first time and I can’t wait to meet you.  Some of you have come in the past and some all 11 years.  It’s such a wonderful time to renew those friendships that have been created.
October’s Top Shop Tour is fast approaching and beginning to fill up.  According to the meteorologist, fall colors in Minnesota and Wisconsin are going to be spectacular this year.  Give us a call if you would like to join us for a grand tour of 9 “APQ Sampler” top shops and three fun days with fellow quilters from all over the US and even Iceland!
